Indiana and Ohio Claim Top Market Steer Honors at Keystone International Livestock Expo

Harrisburg, Pa. – Bryce Bennett of Washington, Ind., and her steer, Thor, claimed top honors yesterday in the market steer show at the 2019 Keystone International Livestock Exposition. Bennett rose above a competitive class of five steers in his middleweight class before winning Middleweight Champion then the overall title.

Claiming Reserve Grand Champion Steer honors was Evann Turek, of Bowerston, Ohio. His steer, 63, was also the Reserve Middleweight Market Steer.

The Champion Farm Show Preview Steer was awarded to Biggie, shown by Alexis Meily, of Huntingdon, Huntingdon Co., Pa. In 2018, she received Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer. HJM Woolly Bear 814F, shown by Dylan Fessler, of Robesonia, Berks Co., Pa. was the Reserve Grand Champion Farm Show Preview Steer. The owners plan to exhibit these animals in three months, when full-grown, at the 2020 Pennsylvania Farm Show.

The Keystone International Livestock Exposition is the largest livestock show on the East Coast, with more than 1,300 beef cattle, 650 horses, 1,200 sheep, 450 swine, and 200 Boer goats. This year, nearly 1,000 exhibitors from 29 states and Canada are competing in livestock events. The show also includes the 12th Annual Keystone Classic Barbecue Competition, a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event to select the state's finest culinary competitors.
