Maryland Duroc Gilt and Berkshire Boar Reign Supreme in Swine Show

Harrisburg – Hogs in the champion drive at the 2017 Keystone International Livestock Exposition exemplified the event’s commitment to showcasing breed-improving animals.

Judge Ken Fetteroff of Beavertown, Snyder Co., had praise for top boars and gilts in each of the nine breeds exhibited. “The York boar is good on his pasterns, which is a problem in that breed,” he noted of his Yorkshire breed champion. “If you have females that are down on their pasterns, this boar will fix it in one shot.”

Fetteroff ultimately chose the Grand Champion Berkshire Boar owned by Gregory Innerst of Red Lion, York Co., as Supreme Champion Boar. The Supreme Champion Gilt was the Grand Champion Duroc Gilt exhibited by Kyle Schultze of Woodbine, Md.

Supreme Champion winners received a $250 check from EMM Sales and Service, Inc., represented by Jon Higinbotham, Brownstown, Lancaster Co., and the Wilson Trailer Company.
